Amanah ‘will back PKR’ in any election clash with Muda

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said when push comes to shove, the party would back PKR.

PETALING JAYA: Amanah will back its Pakatan Harapan ally PKR if the party clashes with Muda at the Johor elections on March 12, says Amanah communications director Khalid Samad.

He said although Amanah had made way for Muda in four of the 20 seats it was allocated as a component party of PH, when push comes to shove, it would back PKR.

“PKR is a coalition partner and in the event there is a clash between it and Muda in seats entrusted to PKR, Amanah will back PKR,” Khalid said in a statement today.

He added that he hoped PKR and Muda would continue to negotiate and find the best possible solution to avoid a clash.

“If a clash between opposition parties is unavoidable in certain seats, let it be limited to those seats alone. The spirit of cooperation must be maintained between the opposition in the other seats to deny Umno-Barisan Nasional a victory,” he said.

PKR and Muda are likely to clash in the Larkin seat, where Muda has named Rasid Abu Bakar as its candidate. PKR had earlier announced Dr Zamil Najwah Arbain as its pick.

PKR is said to have offered Muda three seats but no agreement was reached. DAP, another PH partner, made way in two seats for the new party.

Nominations will be held tomorrow and early polling is on March 8.
