PETALING JAYA: Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he has to take a religious oath to defend himself against allegations he had sought former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s help over his court case as he was left with “no choice”.

The Umno president said the court process would take very long. “By then the elections would have long ended. So what choice do I have?” he asked in a Facebook post tonight.

Zahid went on to say that the outcome of next month’s Johor elections would have no bearing on his corruption case.

Instead, the result of the March 12 polls would only affect those who “duped the rakyat”, he said.

Zahid added that the allegations levelled against him were meant to win support in the Johor polls.

“But I will not bow down to anyone, including Muhyiddin.”

Muhyiddin recently claimed he was asked by Zahid to intervene in his court cases, and that he had declined to do so as he did not want to interfere in matters concerning the judiciary.

Earlier today, Muhyiddin said he had the evidence to prove his claims that Zahid had asked him to intervene.

He also mocked Zahid saying that taking an oath would not change the truth. Muhyiddin added that he did not have to take any religious oath as “I have never lied”.
