Scandalicious Rohana-Leissner affair triggers 10 puzzling facts

Scandalicious Rohana-Leissner affair triggers 10 puzzling facts

Editor’s Note: Rohana has vowed to extend her full cooperation to the MACC regarding its investigation into Leissner’s claim of using money he received from 1MDB to purchase a US$10 mi mansion in London for her, according to theedgemarkets.com.

“I refer to allegations appearing in the media about me. I have attended the offices of the MACC and given them my full cooperation in their investigations,” Rohana said in a brief statement issued by her lawyers at Messrs Valen, Oh & Partners today.

FIRST and foremost, yours truly wishes to state clearly here that what is to be revealed next is not intended to run down the reputation of former Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd CEO Datuk Rohana Rozhan but merely to highlight a series of unanswered questions that spark curiosity.

In this regard, yours truly condemns the branding of the 58 year-old woman of substance who was once a captain of the media industry a “w**re” or “b**ch” as despising and displeasing, especially as Malaysians have yet to listen to Rohana’s side of the story.

In fact, one male netizen rightly shared his disgust with the “ungentlemanly behaviour” of former chief of Goldman Sachs’ Southeast Asia operation Tim Leissner for accusing Rohana of blackmailing him after “having derived so much pleasure” (Dah dapat sedap, salahkan betina).

For the uninitiated, this is FocusM’s follow-up piece after our exposé yesterday (Feb 24) that indeed if Leissner’s account at the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) trial in the US that both he and Rohana were having an affair is true, Rohana would not only have concealed her relationship discreetly but was also a party to the mother of all scandals in Malaysia.

Below are 10 Rohana-Leissner affair puzzles that have surfaced on the various social media platforms which yours truly has taken the liberty to censor either for factual accuracy or moral decency.

  1. Reaction from former colleagues: How would the current and former Astro staff who had once worked alongside or under Rohana react to this piece of news? What yours truly heard from the grapevine is that “one would sympathise with Rohana if the person was once her pet staff otherwise he/she would surely rejoice that karma is a “b**ch” after all”. Well, this goes to mean that every CEO has his/her fair share of enemies.
  2. Is Rohana a spinster or is she is “married but available” (oops)?: From a journalistic perspective, this lip-smacking question is a “cat killer” for nobody knows for sure Rohana’s marital status. One way to be certain is perhaps to get in touch with her former personal assistant (PA) who – if still cannot confirm with certainty the answer – means that Leissner’s secrets are safe with Rohana after his US$10 mil (RM41.85 mil) gift.
  3. Age disparity: Either Leissner has an inkling for older woman (seven to eight years gap between them) or Rohana adores having a “toy boy” around her, it is incredible that the couple was able to be ‘so cuddling and loving’ for a decade long (Leissner claimed that his relationship with Rohana spanned a period between 2003 and 2013).
  4. How many luxurious assets does Rohana own?: Apart from the US$10 mil home in London which Leissner claimed that he had bought Rohana in 2013 after she threatened to expose his involvement with 1MDB, one wonders how many other luxurious real estate assets Rohana owns globally. To borrow the words of former Bukit Bintang MP Wee Choo Keong, “Rohana has shown the world the real power of woman in corporate world” (while cynically asking if personalities like Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz and Tan Sri Tony Fernandez are her buddies).
  5. Has the long arm of the law caught up with Rohana?: Citing a MACC source, Harian Metro reported today that an investigation has commenced with regard to Rohana’s US$10 mil London property in accordance with Section 4(1) of Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA). Aside from MACC, other law enforcement agencies, too, are expected to step in given national interest (and pride) has been compromised (at least to show that they are doing their jobs). They include the Attorney-General, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB).
  6. Islamic policing: Rohana is surely more fortunate than famed transgender cosmetic entrepreneur Nur Sajat who had to flee to Down Under to escape the wrath of the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS). She simply cannot be charged for zina (adultery) for Muslim law stipulates that four Muslim male witnesses of good character must be present at that time the act of adultery was committed.
  7. Deceitful foreign spouses beware: Never under-estimate the bargaining power of Malaysian women’s esteemed calibre. Kindly ensure that your pocket is Pacific Ocean-deep first prior to engaging in any extra marital affair for the price tag to part ways can cost a bomb.
  8. Eastern beauty: University of Tasmania’s Professor of Asian Studies James Chin certainly has a sense of humour when he suggested in a Tweet that Leissner has a crush on Malaysian women.

Apart from Rohana, Leissner is also said to have relationship with the younger Nur Anis Jamaluddin (eldest daughter of the late former Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis), Elia Geneid @ Elia Abas (second daughter of Raziah Mahmud, the sister of Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Abdul Taib Mahmud) and Jasmine Loo (1MDB lawyer). Only Leissner can confirm if he is easily charmed by Eastern beauties or there is a hidden motive in play when he intimately befriended the four women.
  9. Script for a Made-in-Malaysia blockbuster movie: Well, angles and story line aplenty for interested film producers to explore (Malaysia is also rich in talented film stars). If properly-researched and spiced up, this movie-to-be has a potential to be a Malaysia’s first Hollywood blockbuster or perhaps fare even better than Wolf of Wall Street which was alleged to have been funded by ill-gotten money from the 1MDB financial scandal.

And last but certainly not least …
  10. Where is Rohana now?: Rohana has led a very low-profile life since stepping down from Astro on Jan 31, 2019 which was six months after she tendered her notice of her resignation on June 7, 2018 – a day after Astro addressed publicly a customer data leak and posted weaker financial results.

She should once and for all issue a media statement to clear her name by casting doubts on what Leissner has said about her. – Feb 25, 2022
