KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — Perak MCA has apologised to the Sultan of Perak and Malaysians over the upside-down display of the Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag at its state headquarters in Ipoh, which went viral on social media today.

Perak MCA state liaison committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the party took full responsibility and viewed the incident seriously, Kosmo! Online reported.


He said the unintentional mistake was rectified immediately, while the staff member involved had resigned with immediate effect.


“The incident occurred this morning when an elderly staff member at the Perak MCA state headquarters was tasked with installing and putting up the Jalur Gemilang and Perak flag to mark National Month.


“Perak MCA stresses that this was an unintentional mistake and there was absolutely no intention to insult the Jalur Gemilang or the Perak state flag,” he said here today.

Mah said both flags were taken down immediately and put up correctly once the error was noticed.

He also confirmed that police officers from the Ipoh police station visited the MCA headquarters at about 1pm to investigate and record statements from the staff member involved and the headquarters’ administrative officer.


“Perak MCA has and will continue to give full cooperation to the police.

“The staff member expressed regret over the incident and voluntarily offered to resign,” he said.

Mah said the Perak MCA headquarters accepted the resignation out of respect for the staff member’s personal decision.

“He has served with dedication for many years. We will manage matters concerning him in relation to this incident appropriately,” he said.
