PUTRAJAYA:
Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) are expected to decide on the direction of their cooperation for the Melaka state election before Malaysia Day on Sept 16, PKR election director Amirudin Shari said today.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said discussions were still at an early stage, and any final decision would require approval from both PH and PKR.

“I think before Malaysia Day, we may have a clearer picture of how we will move forward in facing the Melaka state election,” he told reporters here.

Amirudin said another round of discussions is expected this week to assess the progress of negotiations.

“We are still at the preliminary exploratory stage and cannot make a decision yet. But I will also need to report back to PH and PKR before any agreement can be finalised,” he said.

Amirudin said PH and BN would draw on their experience of working together and competing against each other in previous state elections to determine the best approach for Melaka.

“We have worked with BN as a coalition in state elections, competed against each other in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, and worked closely together in Sabah.

“We will draw on all these experiences to find an outcome that benefits everyone,” he said.

Yesterday, PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil reportedly said the coalition had its own schedule and timeline for discussions on preparations for the Melaka election.
