The number of Malaysians who remain uncontactable following the flash floods in Nepal’s Rasuwa district has risen to 54 from 17 reported yesterday.

In a Facebook post, Prime Minister Anwar said the Malaysian embassy in Kathmandu was working closely with the Nepalese authorities.

“I am deeply concerned to learn from the foreign ministry that 54 Malaysians remain uncontactable as of now,” he said, adding that efforts to locate them and obtain updates on their condition are under way.

Anwar said Putrajaya would continue to closely monitor the situation and make all necessary efforts to ensure that the safety and welfare of affected Malaysians remain a priority.

“Officers from the Malaysian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh, are also being mobilised to help strengthen coordination on the ground,” he said.

The Nepal Tourism Board yesterday said 17 Malaysians were among hundreds of foreign nationals reported missing following the floods.
