SEPANG, Oct 8 — Malaysian humanitarian activist Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, better known as Nadir Al-Nuri, has called on Malaysians to continue advocating for the Palestinian people amid two years of enduring genocide in Gaza.

The Cinta Gaza Malaysia chief executive officer, who leads the Sumud Nusantara mission, said that although the humanitarian quest involving 23 Malaysians failed to breach the Israeli blockade, it was still a major success as it drew global attention to the plight of the Palestinians.

“Alhamdulillah, after nearly two months of tireless effort, we are witnessing the results today. While we did not manage to break the siege, we have succeeded in breaking the silence.

“Your presence here tonight proves that each one of us is the lifeblood of Palestine,” he said at a press conference during the homecoming event for the Malaysian delegation of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) mission at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.


The Malaysian volunteers were greeted by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, representatives from the Sumud Nusantara Operations Centre (SNCC), non-governmental organisations, and hundreds of Palestinian supporters, who waved Palestinian flags and chanted “Free Palestine” and “Allahuakbar” (God is Great).

Emirates flight EK342, carrying all 27 Malaysian volunteers, including four activists from the observer vessel and five lawyers, landed at 10.07 pm on Tuesday.

Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri said the fight for Palestine’s freedom is far from over and should not stop with the return of the mission’s participants, as the people of Gaza continue to endure hunger, loss, and persistent oppression.


Meanwhile, SNCC director-general Datuk Dr Sani Araby Abdul Alim Araby said the mission’s strength was rooted in the unity and solidarity of all Malaysians, including authorities, volunteers, media personnel, teachers, and community leaders.

“This is the effort of all of us. We have shown that Malaysia has its own formula - a unity of hearts that has sparked a wave of solidarity reaching the global stage,” he said, urging Malaysians to remain united and to continue offering prayers for Palestine.

He also announced that the second wave of the solidarity mission will be unveiled at the Himpunan Solidariti Bersama Gaza, a solidarity rally with Gaza at Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, on Wednesday night.

“We hope everyone will come to the Axiata Arena to lift spirits and support the ‘My Malaysia for Gaza’ mission,” he said.

Israeli genocidal onslaught on Gaza, which began on Oct 7, 2023, has killed at least 67,173 people and injured 169,780 others, including 20,179 children.

The GSF mission, which involved about 500 activists from 44 countries, sailed toward Gaza as a symbol of solidarity and an effort to break the Israeli blockade, carrying essential supplies for Palestinians affected by the ongoing attacks by the Zionist regime.

Unfortunately, 23 Malaysian activists, along with others, were detained by the Zionist regime on Oct 2 after their ships were intercepted in the R3 Red Zone of the Mediterranean Sea and then taken to the port of Ashdod, Israel.

The Malaysians detained included singer Heliza Helmi and her sister Nur Hazwani Afiqah (aboard the Hio vessel), Nurfarahin Romli (also known as Farah Lee) and Danish Nazran Murad (Grande Blu), singer Zizi Kirana (Huga), and Musa Nuwayri, Iylia Balqis and Sul Aidil (Alma), Haikal Abdullah, Muaz Zainal, Zulfadhli Khiruddin and Rusydi Ramli (Sirius).

Also detained were Razali Awang (Inana), social media influencer Nurul Hidayah Mohd Amin, better known as Ardell Aryana (Mikeno), PU Rahmat, Norhelmi Ab Ghani, Mohd Asmawi Mukhtar, and Norazman Ishak (Estrella), Zainal Rashid, and Ustaz Muhammad Abdullah (Fair Lady), as well as Muhammad Hareez Adzrami, also known as Haroqs, Muhd Haikal Luqman Zulkefli, and Taufiq Mohd Razif (Free Willy).

All Malaysian activists were brought out of Israel on Oct 4 with the assistance of the Turkish government and underwent medical and health assessments before returning home. — Bernama
