KUALA LUMPUR: Police have denied claims that a Chinese woman was arrested in connection with an incident on stage at the Perak state-level National Day celebration.

Federal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said police are investigating false information circulated on Facebook. He said the investigation is classified under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements that cause public mischief and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

"The Perak Police Contingent confirms the circulation on Facebook claiming that a Chinese woman was arrested in connection with the incident where a woman went up the main stage during the Perak state-level National Day celebration. The police deny this claim. In fact, the individual arrested was a 41-year-old local woman of Malay ethnicity. A urine screening test was also conducted, and the results were negative," he said in a statement.

He said the woman is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and Section 511 of the Penal Code for attempting to commit an offence.

Kumar added that firm action will be taken against anyone who deliberately makes or spreads false statements that cause public alarm and disturb societal harmony.

Earlier today, a 41-year-old woman was arrested after she dashed towards Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah at the Perak-level National Day parade.

Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the woman, who has prior drug-related offences, also has a history of psychiatric treatment. He said the incident occurred while the Perak state anthem was being played.
