Summary

  • Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh takes issue with DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong’s remarks that the youth wings of DAP, Umno and MCA “walk different paths and cannot work together”.

  • Akmal says DAP should not just talk, but end its relationship with Umno.

Tensions flared once again between Umno Youth and DAP’s Youth wing as their leaders today traded barbs in a fresh round of political sparring.

Having previously dared DAP to sever its ties with him, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh has now thrown down the gauntlet again by challenging his DAP Youth counterpart to request a break between the party and Umno.

The repeated challenge for the parties to break away came after Akmal took issue with DAP Youth chief Woo Kah Leong’s reported remarks, asserting that the youth wings of DAP, Umno, and MCA “walk different paths and cannot work together”.

“Alhamdulillah, gratitudes. I would also like to ask (Woo) to tell his boss that they should just end their relationship with Umno - don’t just talk, (as) only talking will do no good!” Akmal said in a Facebook post today.

He also attached a screenshot of Woo’s comments on China Press’ front page, with the daily reporting that the Pasir Bedamar assemblyperson had made the assertion at a mid-autumn festival event yesterday.

Woo reportedly said the cooperation between the coalition government’s component parties does not extend to the parties’ youth wings, saying: “Our paths are different, our ideals are not aligned, and our philosophies are not the same.”

He also pointed out that “deep engagements” are not necessary in some states, such as Perak, as there are no MCA Youth or Umno Youth representatives in the state assembly.

Previously, in response to calls from Penang DAP Youth for the party to dissolve relations with Akmal, the Merlimau assemblyperson had pointed out that such a move would be akin to DAP cutting off ties with its government ally Umno.

The call from Penang DAP Youth - which was later reiterated by several other DAP Youth wings - came amid heightened tensions over an inverted flag blunder in Penang.

Selangor DAP Youth had accused Akmal of being a “Perikatan Nasional agent,” claiming that he showed no remorse even after being slapped with court charges and continued issuing “misleading” statements to create public tension.

‘Shooting off’

In response to Akmal’s comments today, Woo chided the Umno Youth leader for “shooting off” without understanding the full context of his statement - an attitude, Woo claimed, Akmal does not extend to his “friends” in PAS and Bersatu.

“Don’t just use ‘Google Translate’ to try to understand something; otherwise, you’ll make mistakes like Terengganu Umno Youth and then blame others. Are we supposed to surround the Google office after this?” Woo sarcastically asked in a statement.

He is understood to be referring to Terengganu Umno Youth’s Jalur Gemilang mistake last month, which resulted in an apology and a claim that the designer responsible for the poster containing the erroneous flag was “affected” by other flag-related blunders, which led to his own mistake.

Woo also argued that using the same “analogy” employed by Akmal, the latter could also advise Batu Umno, who decided to cut political ties with Pakatan Harapan, to tell Umno to cut ties with Harapan.

“Don’t be hypocritical and (practise) double standards,” Woo said.

It was previously reported that Batu Umno had severed its relationship with Harapan earlier this month due to dissatisfaction over the allocation of sub-zones under the Residents’ Representative Council.

“It is indeed difficult to make a political thug who likes to play up racial issues understand, especially if he is taking orders from Kajang prison,” Woo added, in reference to former Umno president Najib Abdul Razak, who is now behind bars for financial crimes linked to 1MDB.

  1. Anthony Loke, what with trailer lorry swayed off the road and crashed on the road shoulder on the highway? Driver problem? Vehicle not properly maintain? Slick condition on the road? Weather condition? Human error?

Two incidents of trailer lorries swayed off the PLUS higher going south to Yong Peng direction. Both also in Johor region. These incidents don't get reported unless there cause massive traffic jam, fiery inferno or major fatalities. But these are the incidents that is part of pyramid of accidents and major mishaps.

    Sekian.
