KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Police have obtained a two-day remand order for the lorry driver involved in the fatal crash at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza in Kajang.

Kajang police chief Asst Comm Naazron Abdul Yusof said the driver reportedly jumped out of the lorry during the incident, citing alleged brake failure.

The police have recorded five statements so far, including the lorry owner, who is also the driver’s employer.

Naazron said preliminary investigations revealed the lorry was last serviced in April 2025, but checks are ongoing to confirm whether brake failure was the actual cause of the accident, and the vehicle will be sent for technical inspection.

“The deceased victim’s family members — the mother, grandmother and baby — have been discharged from Hospital Serdang,” he said in a statement today.

“The Proton X70 passenger is still receiving treatment at KPJ Kajang while two Public Works Department staff are warded at Hospital Kajang,” he added.

The crash, which occurred at the toll lanes, killed a one-year-old boy and injured eight others.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

If convicted, the driver could face between five and 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM50,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence for at least five years.

Police urged anyone with information on the crash to contact the nearest police station or Kajang Traffic Investigation Officer Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid at 019-456 5502.
