KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Police have arrested a lorry driver to assist in the investigation of an accident at the Bukit Kajang Toll Plaza this morning, which killed a one-year-old boy and injured seven others.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said they received information about an accident involving a lorry, a car, and two sport utility vehicles at 10.50am.

He said that initial investigations found the lorry carrying scrap iron from Semenyih to Putrajaya had experienced brake failure, causing the driver to lose control and collide with the three other vehicles.

“As a result of the incident, a one-year-old boy died at the scene, and seven others received treatment at Kajang, Serdang, and KPJ Kajang hospitals,” he said in a statement tonight.

Naazron said checks revealed that the 42-year-old lorry driver has three criminal records related to drug and criminal offences, as well as four past summonses for traffic violations in 2013 and 2016.

He said a urine test on the man came back negative for drugs and alcohol, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.

Members of the public with information are urged to contact the nearest police station or Traffic Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Raziman Rasid at Kajang District Police Headquarters at 019-4565502 to assist with the investigation. — Bernama
