- PAS election director Sanusi Nor chides PN allies for depending on the Islamist party for finances to contest in polls.
- Sanusi says it’s time for coalition partners to share financial burden, as elections are “not cheap”.
PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS election director Sanusi Nor today appeared to take a potshot at the party’s allies in Perikatan Nasional, whom he criticised for depending on PAS’ machinery and finances to contest in elections.
In his winding-up speech at PAS’ 71st Muktamar in Kedah, Sanusi said the party had to fork out a huge sum to cover election costs, whereas there were “rakan-rakan” (allies) who came to contest with empty hands.
The Kedah menteri besar said there was a forecast that PAS might need up to RM1 million to cover their campaign costs in each parliamentary constituency, and told delegates not to take lightly the importance of preparing their finances and machinery.
“We are facing friends who depend on equipment that we pay for. It happened here (Kedah), and I think the same also happened in other states.
“We asked each branch (to prepare) RM120,000 per ballot box. Before this, we have been paying for all the equipment, while they (PAS’ friends) came to contest without any worries.
“They do not have the machinery, they do not have money. Everything they did depended on us. But they want to be the leader?
“Do not let me start raking up everything from the past (jangan sampai kita ungkit semua),” he said.
Polls are expensive
It is believed that Sanusi’s criticism was aimed at Bersatu, which had contested the 15th general election alongside PAS.

It is believed that Sanusi’s criticism was aimed at Bersatu, which had contested the 15th general election alongside PAS.

Bersatu had been leading PN despite PAS having the strongest election machinery and holding the largest number of parliamentary seats among the coalition’s component parties.
“Ladies and gentlemen, financial preparation is important. Hopefully, our friends will also understand the situation that we will be facing in the future and that they will also make sacrifices as we have done.
“Our friends who are not forking out any money and do not have the machinery, perhaps they can hang their ‘kain batik’ and ‘kain pelekat’.
“(An election) is expensive oi! It’s not cheap,” Sanusi quipped.
In his speech, Sanusi also reminded PAS members to stop quarrelling among themselves if they wish to see the party win the next general election.
He said they should stop airing their dirty laundry and solve any internal issues as soon as possible before heading towards the polls.
Set up academy
PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, in his winding-up speech, proposed that the party set up an academy for social media influencers.
The academy he mooted is aimed at producing pro-PAS influencers at the constituency level to help the party spread their narrative to voters.

“This academy will play a role in training influencers, especially at the branch level. Local issues must be highlighted.
“Our opponents have been playing up local issues in SG4 states (states controlled by PAS)... They played up issues like (damaged) roads and drainage problems, and made them sound very bad.
“If this is not addressed, it can influence voters. And we should worry about this,” he said.
