PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar reminded party members that the pursuit of reforms cannot be sidelined simply because political power has been attained. She emphasized that reforms remain the foundation of the party’s existence and must continue to drive the agenda of its leaders and members.
Speaking at the launch of the i-Lead training model at the Penang PKR headquarters, Izzah underlined that the struggle for meaningful change was not a short journey but one that required patience, resilience, and unwavering principles. She noted that abandoning reform once in power would leave PKR vulnerable to the same decline experienced by many other political parties that lost their direction.
Penang became the first state to implement the i-Leadership module, which is designed to equip younger members with essential leadership skills aligned with the party’s values. Izzah highlighted that PKR leaders must be courageous enough to speak the unpopular truth when necessary, as only then could the party remain credible in serving the people.
She further explained that a memorandum of understanding would be signed with trainers to ensure consistency and standardization of the leadership module across all states. The i-Lead programme, she said, would serve as an avenue for continuous political education, instilling party history, values, and objectives in future leaders. The ultimate goal, she added, was to nurture principled individuals capable of steering not only PKR but also other institutions with integrity.
According to Izzah, the i-Lead initiative represents PKR’s first dedicated institute for structured leadership development, marking it as a national catalyst for political training. Training sessions will be held on weekends with a maximum of 25 participants per session, conducted by experienced trainers.
She expressed her vision for the programme to ensure PKR’s survival and growth in the coming decades. By producing leaders with the right mindset and commitment, she hoped the party would remain strong and relevant for the next 50 to 100 years.
In her address, Izzah reiterated that while the path to reform may be long and difficult, PKR could not afford complacency. She urged members to work collectively to safeguard the party’s core values, reminding them that only through perseverance and principled leadership could reforms truly be realized for the nation’s future.
