BANGKOK, Sept 9 — Thailand's Supreme Court today ruled billionaire Thaksin Shinawatra must serve one year in jail, in another major blow for a powerful family that has dominated politics for two decades.

Police will take Thaksin into custody, a Reuters reporter who attended the verdict said.

In Thailand never frigg around with the Palace-nobility-military bloc.

  1. This is a really bullshit court ruling from a purely legal viewpoint and does not align with widely accepted international standards.

A person who is hospitalised while still in prison custody - he has no freedom of movement , and usually still under guard , standard practice is that it is counted as part of the prison term. Hospitalisation is the attending doctor's decision, and not for the judge to refuse recognition.

It smacks of vindictivenes to refuse to recognise hospitalisation while under prison custody as part of prison time served.
