FMT:
Bersatu Youth leader slams ‘disappointing’ general assembly
Meor Naqiuddin says this year's meeting only witnessed the apple polishing of leaders

On Sunday, the Bersatu annual general assembly unanimously resolved to nominate party president Muhyiddin Yassin as its prime minister candidate.
PETALING JAYA: A Bersatu Youth leader has criticised the party’s recently concluded general assembly, describing it as a disappointment.
Meor Naqiuddin said a general assembly was meant to be an occasion at which the party’s aspirations, policies and targets are outlined, adding that the public would assess Bersatu according to what took place.
However, he said this year’s meeting only witnessed the apple polishing of leaders.
“The past three general assemblies have been nothing more than a stage for unending drama,” the Parit Bersatu Youth chief said in a Facebook post late last night.

Meor Naqiuddin.
Meor said that in 2023, the main resolution had been to get Muhyiddin Yassin to reverse his decision not to defend his presidency.
A year later, the main resolution reached at the general assembly was for Muhyiddin to remain as president until the 16th general election (GE16), while last weekend it was naming Muhyiddin as the prime minister candidate, he said.
“We saw the same theme at three different general assemblies, just different dramas.
“But what of Bersatu’s duties to the people? Do we not care about their concerns? Many delegates touched on economic and social related issues as well as the cost of living, but it was all drowned out by one drama-filled resolution.”
On Sunday, the Bersatu annual general assembly unanimously resolved to nominate Muhyiddin as its prime minister candidate.
The party’s support for its president came hours after a minor commotion broke out as Muhyiddin was revealing in his presidential address that certain party members had been collecting signatures to oust him.
While a small group heckled him, the majority of delegates chanted “Hidup Tan Sri” in his support.
Meor asked if members could take pride following the conclusion of the general assembly, and whether delegates had been inspired by its outcome.
“Will telling voters that Bersatu has agreed on naming Muhyiddin as the prime minister candidate win us GE16?”
He added that if the “Muhyiddin factor” was enough, the outcome of the 2021 Melaka and 2022 Johor state polls would have reflected it.
Bersatu won just two seats in Melaka and Johor.
Meor said that while the “Muhyiddin factor” played a role in the victories PN had notched in the last general election, there were bigger issues that had swayed voters in support of the opposition, including its clean image and what it had to offer the people.
“We need to stop dwelling in the past and focus. We need to stop quarrelling. As they say in Parit, ‘don’t let people see us as a laughing stock and goons’.”
