MUSLIMS permitted to enter places of worship of other religions for the purpose of spreading Islamic teachings, but NOT vice-versa
Focus Malaysia:
“No problems for Muslims to spread the word in other places of worship
MUSLIMS are permitted to enter places of worship of other religions for the purpose of spreading Islamic teachings and principles, according to Terengganu Mufti Datuk Dr Mohamad Sabri Haron.
However, visiting without justification is against Islamic law. This statement follows a viral video showing a guided harmony visit by the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) to a Hindu temple, which caused concern due to a JAIPk representative noting similarities between Islam and Hinduism.
Sabri emphasised that Muslims should not equate Islam with other religions as it contradicts the principles of faith, highlighting Islam’s unique status as recognised by Allah.
“We can’t go (houses of worship of other religions) without a purpose. Come to introduce Islam and to preach, allowed. It is not the purpose of stating that Islam is the same as other religions,” Sinar Ahad quoted him as saying.
The viral video sparked concern among online users when a woman from JAIPk described that there are many similarities between Hinduism and Islam.
Sabri insisted a Muslim cannot equate Islam with other religions because it contradicts the principles of belief.
“Because (the position of) Islam is high and (religion) the only one certified by Allah SWT.
“Islam cannot be equated with other religions. In Malaysia, Islam is the constitutional religion, and the religious leaders in the states are also Muslims, so you have to follow,” he said. – Aug 4, 2024
