FMT:
Whole world is watching,
Muhyiddin says on Sungai
Bakap poll
The former prime minister says the international community will be keeping tabs on the outcome of the by-election tomorrow.
PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin says the international community will be keeping tabs on the outcome of the by-election in Sungai Bakap tomorrow.
At a ceramah in Sungai Duri, Penang, last night, Muhyiddin, who is also the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, said Malaysians were not the only ones monitoring the poll.
“Although this is just a by-election, it is being watched by the entire world.
“(They want to know) what decision will be made by Sungai Bakap voters, whether it will be PN or Pakatan Harapan (PH) that wins.”
Tomorrow’s by-election will see a straight fight between PN’s Abidin Ismail of PAS and PH candidate Joohari Ariffin of PKR.
The seat fell vacant following the death of PAS assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24
In the state election last August, Zamri defeated PH candidate Nurhidayah Che Rose with a 1,563-vote majority.
Separately, Muhyiddin called on voters to send the unity government a “signal” tomorrow over the government’s decision to privatise Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd.
The decision was criticised due to the involvement of Global Infrastructure Partners, after it was revealed that it was in the process of being acquired by a firm that allegedly manufactures weapons used by Israel.
“This is where the wave will start (before it builds up) to the 16th general election which will see PN come back as the government,” Muhyiddin said.
