Quit if you cannot respect others, Sanusi tells Gerakan

Perikatan Nasional election director Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor is the latest PAS leader to make it clear that no tears would be shed if Gerakan chose to leave the coalition.
The Kedah menteri besar also said the Gerakan leadership must learn to respect the Malays and Islam in Malaysia.
“There is no need to issue threats, we are mature. Learn to respect. Learn to respect the Malays and Islam in this country. What is this politics of making threats?” he told Malaysiakini.
On a personal note, Sanusi said he had no qualms if Gerakan exited the coalition.
“You are welcome to leave. That is Sanusi’s comment. Everyone must respect them, but they don’t respect us… You don’t expect just the Malays to respect you (all the time).” he added.
Earlier, Free Malaysia Today reported PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah as stating that if Gerakan is uncomfortable with being part of PN, then it is free to leave the coalition.

The two coalition partners are at odds with each other over the role of alcoholic beverage companies in facilitating fundraising events for Chinese vernacular schools.
While some have opposed such involvement - as occurred recently in Sepang - Gerakan opined such collaboration should not be banned.
This had drawn condemnation from PAS leaders such as its information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, while the party mouthpiece Harakah deemed Gerakan’s stance to be the same as DAP’s.

Responding to this, Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong said the party would not hesitate to leave PN if it means defending the Chinese education system.
He said Gerakan would not stay in a coalition if it is forced to accept extremely conservative and unreasonable demands of a "particular party".

“Are we to respect them on everything? Don’t they need to respect us (too)?” he said.
Sanusi added that his call to respect Malays and Islam is not aimed solely at Gerakan but at all race-based parties in the coalition.
