Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Atirah Sabu has refused to entertain calls for her resignation following her attendance at a donation event organised by a beer company at a vernacular school in Sepang.
Dismissing the incident as a non-issue, Aiman (above, left) stated that she had already apologised for what she claimed was an unintentional mistake.
"I don't want to be dragged into something that's actually not an issue. I have already issued an apology if I made a mistake.
"We need to move forward and focus on our work, the people need protection and services," she said at a press conference in Puchong today, as reported by local media.
"My priority is to provide the best service to the people as the deputy minister of one of the major ministries that require outreach to the people, regardless of race, across the country," she added.
Yesterday, former education minister Maszlee Malik said Aiman should resign as deputy minister and as Sepang MP due to her presence at the Chinese school fundraising event involving Tiger Beer.
Maszlee, who is also a member of the PKR central leadership council, said that as the Amanah Women's chief, Aiman's participation in the event was embarrassing and tarnished the party's image.

"Amanah's concept of compassionate Islam has never condoned alcohol at school events," Maszlee was reported as saying.
