Perikatan Nasional MP Awang Hashim was given three chances by Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Ramli Nor to retract his remarks.

KUALA LUMPUR: 

Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) was removed from the Dewan Rakyat today for refusing to retract a remark describing RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) as 

anti-Islam

.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Ramli Nor gave Awang three chances to retract his statement, but the MP said he 

stood by his principles

.

Ramli subsequently suspended Awang from attending Dewan Rakyat proceedings for three days.

Awang had said Rayer was 

anti-Islam

 as he was from DAP, which initiated a judicial review on the Kedah government’s refusal to renew gaming licences in 2021.

Awang claimed the move had disrespected the rights of Muslims, who form about 70% of the population in the state.
