Aiman calls PAS 'hypocrites' over brewery donation issue

Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister Aiman Athirah Sabu has called PAS a "hypocrite" for criticising her participation in a recent fundraising event, where a brewery company handed its donations to a Chinese school.

The Sepang MP pointed out that PAS leaders had no problems sitting among non-Muslims who were consuming alcohol when it was time for election campaigns.

"During political campaigns, they were fine to meet with people when they were consuming alcohol or even while they were eating pork.

"They could even shake hands with the people who had just eaten pork. Hypocrites," she said in an interview yesterday with Amanah Youth vice-chief Zulhazmi Hassan, who is also a YouTuber known as Jeming.

For the record, Muslims are prohibited from consuming pork and alcoholic beverages, or any product derived from the items. Pork is also considered unclean in Islam.

Last Sunday, a charity event organised by SJK(C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek courted controversy after it was found that a brewery company, Tiger Beer, was one of the donors.

Aiman, along with Selangor state executive councillor for local government, new village development and tourism Ng Suee Lim officiated the event, which was also attended by Sungai Pelek assemblyperson Lwi Kian Keong.

Aiman said the donation never meant that they now accept the practice of alcohol consumption.


Support for school, not alcohol

The Amanah Women's chief said her presence there was to "support the school, not alcohol".

However, she added, it was the right of the non-Muslims to drink alcoholic beverages and pointed out to several PAS leaders who had also taken a similar stance.

"That is their right (to drink alcohol). (PAS leaders) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and Idris Ahmad also said this before," she said.

Aiman also lambasted PAS for raising the issue of Tiger Beer's donation while allegedly ignoring the fact that she had also presented donations to the same school.

The deputy minister had presented a total of RM1.2 million in donations for education in Sepang, including RM100,000 to SJK(C) Tche Min.
