Bersatu drowning in PN due to extreme actions of PAS, claims former leader

Former Bersatu supreme council member Dr Muhammad Faiz Na'aman has described the party as ‘drowning’ in the Perikatan Nasional coalition due to the extreme actions of its senior ally PAS.

He said that Bersatu is just a 'partner' in PN and just a complement to the political agenda brought by PAS.

"Bersatu is now just an accomplice playing complementary to the political agenda of playing the race and religions sentiment by PAS and Gerakan fragments.

"If we become more extreme, it will be difficult to form a federal administration because it requires the cooperation of all races, including the Borneo block, which has many non-Muslim natives as well as moderate Muslims,” he said in a statement today.

"If it goes as far as to defend or capture traditional conservative Malay majority states such as Kedah, Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu, that is fine, PAS will be the winner in the end," he added.

PAS is the largest party in the Dewan Rakyat and also helms four states in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis.

Faiz reminded Bersatu to bear in mind the views of the Malay Rulers who want the country to be managed by taking into account the interests of all parties.

"Remember, our country has the Malay Rulers and the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the top determining factors of the legitimacy of a central government.

"And most of them, if not all of them, often call for our country to be managed by a government that represents the interests of all parties, balanced and moderate so that unity can be maintained and progress can continue," he added.

Faiz also recalled that the Bersatu party was initially formed with the spirit of moderation, supposedly to replace Umno, which was also considered moderate over the years when compared to PAS.
