Loh's lawyer: PAS appreciates me for defending them

Lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind was not told why he was invited to the recent PAS Youth national delegates meeting but believed it was due to his defence of the party's policies online.

"The fact (that I have been defending them) was mentioned by (PAS vice-president) Idris Ahmad when he spoke at the PAS Supporters Wing convention on Oct 15," said Shamsher (above) in a statement today.

He was responding to a Malaysiakini article which cited Muhammad Nagahswaran Muniandy questioning PAS' motives in inviting the lawyer.

Shamsher had represented Loh Siew Hong in her attempts to secure custody of her three children from Nagahswaran, who had, without her knowledge, arranged for the children to be converted to Islam.

In March 2021, the High Court granted Loh full custody of the children as part of the divorce proceedings against Nagahswaran.

However, Loh was only reunited with her children in February 2022 - three years after Nagahwaran had taken them away from her.

No 'social standing'

In his statement, Shamsher said Nagahswaran had no "social standing" to question PAS Youth over the invitation or accuse him of taking his children to live with a non-Muslim.

Shamsher said Nagahswaran had taken the three children to Perlis in 2020, in the midst of the divorce proceedings, and converted them to Islam without Loh's knowledge.

"He also removed his lawyer on July 12, 2020, and filed a notice to represent himself during the divorce proceedings but he never returned to court since then," said Shamsher.

Shamsher said the views expressed by Nagahswaran and preacher, Nazirah Nanthakumari Abdullah on his participation in the PAS Youth delegates assembly was a form of slander and vowed to take legal action.

Shamsher added that he accepts Islam's constitutional status and that Syariah was part of Malaysia's legal system.

The lawyer also said he had already completed a diploma in Syariah and legal practice in 2021, which he described as his effort to understand Syariah law.
