PAS Muktamar: Loh's ex-spouse shocked by appearance of her lawyer

The ex-husband of Loh Siew Hong has expressed shock after a lawyer involved in an interfaith child custody battle against him purportedly appeared as a guest at the PAS muktamar last week.

The Muslim convert Muhammad Nagahswaran Muniandy said he was dismayed and questioned PAS’ motive for inviting the lawyer.

“If PAS invited him, why? Was he invited (to PAS events) before this?” he told Malaysiakini.

Loh is a single mother who has filed a legal challenge against Nagahswaran alleging he abducted their children and unilaterally converted them to Islam.

On Feb 21 last year, the High Court in Kuala Lumpur allowed her habeas corpus application against the Welfare Department and an ustazah who were taking care of the three children.

The judge also ordered for the children to be released to Loh’s custody.

During the proceedings, Loh was represented by lawyer Shamsher Singh Thind (above, right).

On Thursday last week, Shamsher published a photo of him at the PAS Youth muktamar that was taking place in Shah Alam, Selangor. He claimed he was invited to attend the event as a guest.

“Invited as a guest to attend the launching of the Muktamar Dewan Pemuda PAS Malaysia. It was an honour when (PAS deputy president) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man called me by name.

“Also met my old friends (PAS Youth chief) Afnan Hamimi and Subash Chandrabose Arumugam Pillai,” Shamsher wrote in a Facebook post, along with photos of him together with Tuan Ibrahim and Afnan.

‘Invitation could lead to slander’

Islamic preacher Nazirah Nanthakumari Abdullah, who was involved in Loh’s case, likewise expressed shock and questioned PAS about Shamsher’s presence at the muktamar.

When contacted, Nazirah told Malaysiakini several people asked her about Shamser’s involvement.

“They said it should be people who fight for Islam or NGOs that proselytise Islam who should be invited by PAS.

“That’s why I was shocked, and we don’t know what is their motive.

“Personally, I think the invitation could lead to slander,” Nazirah said, while declining to elaborate further.

Malaysiakini has contacted several PAS leaders for comment and is awaiting a response.

  1. Shamsher Singh Thind is a known Hudud supporter.
That doesn't necessarily disqualify him from being Loh's lawyer.
Theoretically, a lawyer can act professionally representating his client's interest regardless of his personal political views.

However, it is a very scary situation Loh is in, exposed to possible betrayal of her case.

  2. What a pity. She has descended so low as to allow her children to follow her wallowing in the cesspool.
