KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — The new Selangor menteri besar will reportedly be sworn in on Monday to accommodate the return of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah from undergoing medical procedures in London.

Malaysia Gazette reported that three names have been submitted to the Selangor palace as menteri besar candidates, with former menteri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari topping the list.

“[On Monday] there was already a meeting. All positive so far. Istana wants three names, the party has sent three names giving full priority to Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. This is also due to his excellent performance in governing Selangor.

“First-term state legislative assemblymen are unlikely to be selected,” the report said, citing an unnamed source was quoted.

It is understood that the other two names that were submitted to the palace were Borhan Aman Shah (Tanjung Sepat) and Dr Fahmi Ngah (Seri Setia). Both of them are also from PKR.

In the Selangor state election last Saturday, the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) coalition succeeded in forming the state government after winning 34 out of 56 seats.

Last month, Amirudin Shari expressed his wish to continue helming the state government if the PH-BN coalition wins, saying his wish stems from wanting to implement the state’s various development plans for the sustainability of its economy and the well-being of its people.

Amirudin was sworn in for his previous term on June 19, 2018 after Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali — then with PH but is now with Perikatan Nasional — relinquished the post to become the minister of economic affairs.

Yesterday, the Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah arrived home safely accompanied by Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

His majesty left for London, on July 28 to undergo Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate surgery at a hospital in the capital city.
