Zahid: PAS leaders' hearts as 'murky' as Kelantan water
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has drawn a parable between the murky water issue plaguing Kelantan and PAS leaders administering the state.
"Basic development agenda, especially in Kedah and Kelantan, is in desperate need of change.
"The clean water supply issue in Kelantan, for example - there's no solution in sight even after decades," Zahid, who is also deputy prime minister, said during his policy speech at the 2023 Umno general assembly at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.
Zahid pointed out that PAS had been given ample chance to improve its administration, but there has been no development.
"Were they (PAS) not given a chance? They administered (Kelantan) for 33 years and one of their representatives has even served as a minister in charge of water.
"But the murky water issue is yet to be resolved. Their hearts (PAS leaders') are as murky as the (Kelantan) water," Zahid quipped.
He further urged people born in Kelantan, Kedah and Terengganu (PAS-administered states) who are residing in other states to think of their aged parents back home when casting their votes in the upcoming six state elections.
Meanwhile, Zahid also accused Perikatan Nasional leaders of "hiding" behind the bumiputera agenda, as well as the "Clean and Stable" (Bersih dan Stabil) slogan, while dabbling in corruption.
"We often hear accusations of Umno hiding behind the bumiputera.
"But not even two years in power, they (PN) has 'janawibawa-ed' the bumiputera agenda they championed," he said.
This was in reference to the Jana Wibawa (Bumiputera Contractor Empowerment Economic Generation Programme) scheme, introduced in November 2020 during former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.

Several PN-aligned leaders, including Muhyiddin himself, have been slapped with charges related to the scheme.
"These are the characteristics of traitors who hide behind the clean and stable slogan," said Zahid.
