MB: Harapan-BN combo can win more than 50 Selangor seats

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari expressed his confidence that the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional alliance could win more than two-thirds of the seats in Selangor for the upcoming state elections.

“With the right strategy, it is possible for us (Harapan-BN) to win more than 50 seats,” he told reporters at a press conference in Shah Alam today.

Selangor has 56 state seats, with Harapan and BN controlling 45 seats together.

Amirudin also mentioned that Harapan and BN have finalised talks on seat allocations.

However, he said there are several seats that needed to be reviewed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Deputy Prime Ministers Ahmad Zahid Hamidi - as the Harapan and BN chairpersons, respectively.

“We still have several seats in Negeri Sembilan, Penang, Selangor and Terengganu that need to be finalised, but the number is very small compared to the number of seats (that are confirmed) to be contested,” Amirudin added.

This morning, Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to the dissolution of the Selangor state legislative assembly on June 23 to pave the way for state elections.

Selangor is among three states under Harapan which will hold their polls soon, with the other two being Penang and Negeri Sembilan, which have announced that they will dissolve their state assemblies on June 28 and 30, respectively.

Apart from this, three states ruled by Perikatan Nasional will also have their elections soon, with Kelantan dissolving its state assembly on June 22 and Kedah on June 28.

Terengganu has yet to announce its dissolution date.
