Gerakan urges PAS MP to apologise for 'tight uniform' remark
Gerakan deputy president Oh Tong Keong has urged PAS’ Kuantan MP Wan Razali Wan Nor to retract his assertion that female nurses’ uniforms are too tight-fitting and apologise to healthcare workers in the country.
Oh said healthcare workers have a sacred duty to dedicate their time and energy to save lives, so it is unacceptable for the MP to make derogatory comments about their attire.
He said Wan Razali’s (above) comments are disappointing, and Gerakan - a PAS ally within the Perikatan Nasional coalition - “completely disagrees” with his stance.
He said people only go to hospitals to seek treatment or wish their loved ones a speedy recovery and have no time to be concerned about what the nurses are wearing.
“People go to hospitals to seek treatment, to save lives. No one would play the role of ‘moral police’ with an extremist religious perspective like that particular MP to nitpick on healthcare workers’ attire,” he said in a statement today.

Yesterday, during parliamentary debates on the Health White Paper, Wan Razali said female nurses’ uniforms are too tight and are not syariah-compliant, and the dress code should be relaxed to allow “more appropriate” clothing.
Temerloh MP Salamiah Mohd Nor also supported his suggestion.
His comments drew brickbats from government backbenchers and the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA).
MMA president Dr Muruga Rajathurai said the uniforms are practical and adhere to the civil servant dress code.
