PETALING JAYA: Outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said he agreed to step down early after being offered a “post-retirement plan” by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
Without elaborating further, Acryl Sani explained that the offer took him by surprise but he was nonetheless grateful to the prime minister.
“When I told him (Anwar) that I intended on finishing my contract on Oct 3, 2023 as scheduled, the prime minister very considerately offered me a post-retirement plan,” he said during the handover ceremony at the police training centre (Pulapol) in Kuala Lumpur.
Acryl Sani also said nothing “untoward” had occurred prior to his decision to retire four months ahead of time and that he was leaving the force with an open heart.
Earlier, Acryl Sani handed over the reins to Razarudin Husain who will assume the role as the country’s top cop from tomorrow.
In turn, Razarudin handed the post of deputy IGP to Bukit Aman’s criminal investigation department (CID) chief Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.
The event was attended by home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, senior home ministry officials, and the top brass in the police force.
