KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Youth has submitted a memorandum of protest against Abdul Hadi Awang to Istana Negara, over the PAS president’s remarks on plans to topple the unity government.

Amanah Youth vice-chief Abbas Salimmi Adzmi accused Hadi of going against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s decree against political instability, pointing out that the King had said he wanted this government to last.

“(The King) hoped for no more changes in the government, following what we witnessed in the previous (parliamentary) term,” Abbas told reporters outside Istana Negara here.

As a senior politician who represented Islam, Abbas said Hadi should be helping to revive the nation instead of being power hungry and trying to topple the government.

“What’s worse is that he says nobody can stop a change in government from happening, when the King himself had asked for all MPs to focus on building up the nation.

“In this memorandum, we ask that the King consider revoking the title of Tan Sri that Hadi was awarded last year, and all other titles bestowed on him due to his insolence and disrespect against the Malay Rulers,” Abbas said.

He added that Amanah Youth will also be lodging a police report against Hadi over his remarks at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters (IPD) at 3pm today.

On Monday, Hadi told reporters in Parliament that the opposition had every right to formulate plans to topple the current government and that no one can stop them from doing so.

The Marang MP said the opposition was working on retaking Putrajaya “not only through elections but also in Parliament”, adding that this was commonplace in a democratic country.

The PAS president also dismissed the notion that attempts to topple the government would go against the King’s wish for political stability in the country, saying the King cannot prevent changes in a democratic nation.

“The King is subject to the Federal Constitution, (and) our constitution still upholds democracy,” he was reported to have said.
