KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) did not disrupt Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim’s livestream on TikTok yesterday as he alleged, Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching told the Arau MP from Perikatan Nasional today.

She said the ministry was not involved in the matter, before challenging Shahidan to repeat his claim outside of Parliament where his remarks would not be privileged.

“The ministry has no knowledge of this. I feel that the allegations that his (Shahidan) live TikTok session was shut down due to KKD’s collaboration with TikTok and recent meeting, is irresponsible.

“If he is brave enough, he should bring this matter out of the Dewan and say it again so that legal action can be taken,” Teo told the Parliament today during her winding up speech at committee state on the Budget 2023.

She was responding to Shahidan who asked if the ministry had collaborated with TikTok and was behind the shutting down his livestream on the video-sharing platform yesterday.

Teo further said that Shahidan, as an experienced lawmaker, should use his time in Parliament to discuss important topics such as cybersecurity rather than TikTok and his other social media.

She also said he could have asked TikTok directly about the disruption, rather than using Parliament for the purpose.

“KKD is not involved. If KKD is involved, then the live TikTok earlier KKD would have asked TikTok to erase it. Yang Berhomat, you have to understand that TikTok is not a company set up in Malaysia and not under the KKD; it does not take orders from KKD just like that.

“So, if you want to ask, please channel the question to TikTok, if you want their number I can give it to you,” she said.
