KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief today confirmed that former Astro chief executive Datuk Rohana Rozhan has returned to the government US$10 million (RM44.2 million) allegedly stolen from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Tan Sri Azam Baki added that a total of RM28.93 billion, about 70% of the overall 1MDB funds, has been successfully returned.
Meanwhile, a source told Utusan Malaysia that Rohana returned the money after MACC investigations found that she had no knowledge that the funds were from the misappropriation of 1MDB funds by former Goldman Sachs banker Tim Leissner.
The source added that Rohana had voluntarily returned the money and assets to the Malaysian government.
This came after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said informed that the Attorney-General’s Chambers did not have information on the funds’ status.
Rohana was Leissner’s ex-girlfriend, whose name was revealed by Leissner when he testified in a US trial of former bank colleague Roger Ng last year.
Leissner told the court that he gifted her with a US$10 million home in London in 2013, after she threatened to expose his involvement in the 1MDB scandal. – The Vibes, March 24, 2023
