Makkal Sakti rises to defend Najib’s innocence, tells CJ Tengku Maimum to step down

INCARCERATED ex-premier must be feeling vindicated from his Kajang prison cell knowing that Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia, an Indian-based political party which is closely-linked to him has been championing his interest even after he has been put behind bars.

This is after the offshoot of the apolitical non-governmental organisation (NGO), Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF), is seemingly doing a good job to complement Najib’s legal team by calling for the resignation of Chief Justice Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat on grounds that she has abused her position in ensuring a fair trial in the Pekan MP’s corruption charges.

For one, party president Datuk Seri R.S. Thanenthiran said Tengku Maimun cannot simply hands-off her responsibility by stating that the Federal Court is done with its job insofar as Najib’s petition to the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention is concerned by stating that the Federal Court delivered its decision on Aug 23 last year, hence the decision was “entirely up to him (Najib)”.

“Her job is far from over unless she has resigned from her post … her statement is very prejudiced, lopsided and biased as Najib through his defence team has filed petition to seek a judicial review due to the defects that she herself has caused,” he told the media after lodging a police report against Tengku Maimun at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.

Thanenthiran also took a swipe at Tengku Maimun for revealing that she had received death threats which he deemed as causing unrest in the minds of the people and judges who will be hearing the review of Najib’s application of his conviction and 12 years jail sentence and fine for misappropriation of RM42 mil of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds on Jan 19.

“This is really unfair to Najib who is unable to defend himself for he is being held behind bars in the Kajang prison,” he claimed.

Moreover, Thanenthiran said Tengku Maimun’s action will also spark fear among ‘junior’ judges who will be hearing the review of Najib’s application in his SRC International Sdn Bhd case this Jan 19.

“According to Paragraph 8.3 of Judges Code of Ethics 2009, ‘A judge shall refrain from any conduct as a member of any group or participate in any public discussion which in the mind of a reasonable person may undermine confidence in the judge’s impartiality with respect to any issue pending before the court’,” he contended.

“I think Tengku Maimun has breached this code and should be brought before the judges’ ethics committee for action to be taken against her.” – Jan 11, 2023
