Angry football fans flood Jay Chou’s Instagram with racist comments

A booking for a Jay Chou concert at the National Stadium led to a ticket shortage for tomorrow’s AFF Cup football match between Malaysia and Thailand.

PETALING JAYA: Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou has become the target of toxic and racist attacks by Malaysian football fans unhappy over a ticket shortage tomorrow because of a planned concert.

The national team is set to play the first leg of the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Cup tomorrow but 21,000 seats at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil have been left vacant because the seats are blocked by a stage for Chou’s concert on Jan 15.

The Bukit Jalil stadium has a capacity of more than 84,000.

A number of Malaysian social media users have flooded Chou’s Instagram posts with angry comments, demanding he cancels the concert.

“Cancel the concert in Malaysia, don’t anger Malaysians. We want to see the match. We hope you understand and cooperate,” said Fareez_991. Another user, f3zzly, asked Chou to perform in another stadium.

There were also those who left toxic and racist remarks.

However, some social media users stood up for Chou and apologised for the actions of those who vented their frustrations at the singer.

“Please forgive those who left toxic comments, they forgot their manners. Please do not hate Malaysia because these people do not represent the majority of Malaysians,” said Instagram user elieynz.

According to youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh, organisers of the Jay Chou World Tour had booked the National Stadium almost four years before the Football Association of Malaysia secured use of the stadium for AFF Cup matches.

  1. Get used to it.
The majority of MALAY-sians are like that - and they vote in elections for politicians with the same outlook.

  2. When PAS is a part of the government, such concerts will probably be banned anyway. Then there will be no issue and the mainly malay crowd can enjoy their football to their hearts' content.
