Up to Umno, Khairuddin says on defending seat under BN ticket
Khairuddin Aman Razali was sacked as PAS Syura Council secretary on Feb 11, a month after being expelled from the party’s central committee.
PETALING JAYA: Former PAS leader Khairuddin Aman Razali said it is up to the Umno leadership to allow him to defend his Kuala Nerus parliamentary seat under a Barisan Nasional (BN) ticket in the upcoming general election (GE15).
Khairuddin said he had informed Umno of his stance on the matter.
He said he was currently in Kedah and would be travelling to Lumut and Pasir Salak in Perak, and later Pahang, to help with BN’s election campaign.
“My task is to campaign for BN as much as possible to ensure victory (in GE15),” he told FMT.
Khairuddin was commenting on media reports that he would be seeking re-election in Kuala Nerus on a BN ticket.
When asked about speculation that he would be joining Umno soon, the former PAS central committee member declined to comment.
He said his willingness to join Umno was “not an issue”, adding that what was most important was that he contributed to a BN victory at the polls and prevented Pakatan Harapan from coming to power.
Khairuddin was a two-term Kuala Nerus MP before Parliament’s dissolution. He had defeated Umno and Amanah candidates by 8,447 votes in the last general election.
He was sacked as secretary of the PAS Syura Council on Feb 11. A month earlier he was expelled from the party’s central committee.
In March, the former plantation industries and commodities minister had said he would not join Umno or set up a new party after quitting PAS.
