Tuan Ibrahim: Sanusi is like a bouquet, no need to act against him
GE15 | Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s critics describe his remarks as hideous, but PAS number two Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man believes the Kedah menteri besar has an attractive side as well.
He likened the Kedah PAS chief to a bouquet when asked if an action would be taken against Sanusi for his controversial statements.
“It’s like a bouquet. There are small flowers, and big, beautiful flowers,” he said when met at the sidelines of an event in Terengganu last night.
Although stating this does not mean PAS viewed it as a minor issue, Tuan Ibrahim (above) said such antics were part and parcel of election strategies to gain votes.
“The main thing is, during this campaign period, people will use all kinds of methods. People will campaign and make an issue out of it even if someone blinks.
“So, I think such things are a non-issue to us,” he added.
Sanusi had courted flak when he questioned whether women were suitable as election candidates.
Denying accusations of sexism, the PAS election director claimed he was conveying the voters’ sentiment in Sik and his thick local accent might have made his speech difficult to understand.
On Monday, a video depicting Sanusi mocking PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s teeth went viral.
Following this, PAS central committee member Ahmad Amzad Hashim cautioned that the actions of certain leaders and those close to them would have a negative impact during the polls.

He said such actions were against PAS’ aspirations for a mature and harmonious political culture.
Amzad added that he believes the PAS top brass has reprimanded those concerned.
‘It’s part of campaigning’
Meanwhile, Tuan Ibrahim acknowledged that some might cross the line when making jokes during their speeches to rouse the audience’s interest.
“It’s not even the main point… it’s part of campaigning. No matter, we will manage it all in the party,” he added.
On a separate matter, Tuan Ibrahim commented on caretaker prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s pledge to trim the size of his next cabinet if BN wins the election.
The PAS leader said Perikatan Nasional would consider doing the same if it captures Putrajaya.
He said the setting up of a cabinet depends on the demands of the time while considering other factors such as financial capabilities.
At the same time, Tuan Ibrahim pointed out that if a cabinet is too small, it would hinder the government’s performance.
“So, we have to consider both factors and I think it will be decided by the prime minister,” he added.
