SEPANG: Aiman Athirah Sabu, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Sepang, has taken a swipe at her rival from Perikatan Nasional (PN), Rina Harun for moving to another seat instead of defending her Titiwangsa seat in the general election (GE15).
She said this showed that Rina had failed to serve the people of Titiwangsa.
“Her moving here signifies her failure as an MP in Titiwangsa after the last general election (GE14). She just couldn’t last there,” Aiman told FMT.
Rina, who is women, family and community development minister, contested the Titiwangsa seat on a PH ticket in GE14 and defeated Barisan Nasional’s Johari Abdul Ghani with a majority of 4,139 votes.
The Wanita Bersatu chief also served as rural development minister in the PH government, prior to her party’s departure from the coalition.
Meanwhile, Aiman said she was aware of her rivals’ claim that Amanah was controlled by DAP, describing it as a “vicious campaign”.
“DAP has become the scapegoat to instill fear among the Malays. The truth is that DAP ministers performed well during the PH administration.
“BN has MCA, PN has Gerakan, and PH has DAP. It’s as simple as that. But DAP has better qualities than MCA and Gerakan, and for that, other coalitions envy us,” she said.
She urged voters to reject those who play the racial card and slander others to get an edge over their rivals, adding that they should vote for the coalition that focused on what it had to offer them.
Aiman also dismissed the narrative that she should not be elected because she was an outsider in Sepang, saying this was an outdated ploy.
“Although I was born in Sabah, I have been living in Selangor for more than 20 years now. I think my rivals should stop exploiting the ‘outsider’ narrative,” she said, adding that what was important was that she would stand up for Sepang folk without fear or favour.
Aiman is defending the seat that Hanipa Maidin won for PH with a 18,705 majority against BN’s Marsum Paing and PAS’ Sabirin Marsono in the 2018 general election (GE14).
She is in a eight-cornered fight in Sepang. Aside from Rina, Aiman will be facing Anuar Basiran (BN), Che Asmah Ibrahim (Pejuang), Daud Leong Abdullah (Parti Utama Rakyat), R Nageswaran (Parti Rakyat Malaysia), and two independent candidates.
