I did more in 1 term than 2 DAP MPs in 10 years, says MCA man
Lee Chee Leong was Kampar MP from 2008 to 2013, but lost the seat to two different DAP candidates in GE13 and GE14.
KAMPAR: Barisan Nasional’s Lee Chee Leong claims he did more for Kampar in the one term that he was MP compared with the work done by the two MPs from DAP in the past 10 years.
Lee, who served as Kampar MP from 2008 to 2013, is now hoping to regain his old seat, having lost it to DAP’s Ko Chung Sen in the 2013 general election (GE13). He was defeated again in the 2018 general election (GE14) by Thomas Su.
In his fourth time contesting for the seat, the MCA leader hopes that he will finally get his second term in Parliament.
“During the term that I was elected, I managed to bring three government agencies to Kampar. The immigration department, the civil defence force, and the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK),” Lee told FMT.
“I (also) managed to get RM25 million to construct a new road linking Pantai Baru Kampar to Tanjung Tualang Malim Nawar. That shortened the distance between the two places, and in effect improved the economies of both sides.”
According to Lee, as Kampar MP, he also managed to obtain approval from the health ministry for the construction of a new hospital, even securing a 90-acre plot of land for the site.
“Unfortunately, once the project was approved and the land was taken over by the health ministry, the general election was called and I lost.
“This is my vision, one day, a new hospital with over 100 beds, giving health services to Kamparians,” he said.
Lee urged voters in Kampar to compare his track record in developing the constituency against that of his successors before casting their ballots on Nov 19.
“My record, though just one term, is that I was able to bring government agencies here to serve Kamparians, and I was able to improve the infrastructure,” he said, adding that he had also set up facilities like futsal courts for the local youth too.
Come polling day, Lee will face Chong Zhemin of Pakatan Harapan, Wong Oi Foon (Perikatan Nasional), and Leong Cheok Lung (Warisan).

MCA will probably win this time.
