Not true PKR ditching DAP for alliance with GPS, says PH

Pakatan Harapan says it will not dump DAP to forge an alliance with GPS to form the new government.

PETALING JAYA: A purportedly “leaked” internal memo on PKR ditching DAP to foster a formal alliance with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is fake, says Pakatan Harapan.

The fake internal memo quoted PKR president Anwar Ibrahim as saying there was a need for clearer cooperation with GPS in view of PH’s “winning trend” in the general election.

It said PKR had decided to split with DAP so the party could form the government and Anwar become the prime minister.

Yesterday, PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli said the only “configuration” that could guarantee a stable federal government was cooperation between PH and GPS.

Rafizi said he was not expecting a single coalition to have a clear mandate to form the government after the polls, although he foresaw PH and GPS winning the lion’s share of seats in the peninsula and Sarawak, respectively.

He confirmed that there were unofficial “exchanges of communication here and there” with the Sarawak coalition, though the indication he received was that they wanted to wait for the election results first.

However, he said, there had yet to be an outright rejection.

Previously, Rafizi said PH could only work with GPS and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) to form the next federal government should the need arise, as cooperation with Barisan Nasional, Perikatan Nasional or Pejuang was out of the question.

However, Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen said it was impossible to expect GPS to work with PH. He said voting for the Sarawakian coalition was equivalent to voting for Umno.
