In Perak, voters wade through floodwaters to cast their ballots

PETALING JAYA: Floods in several areas of Perak have not dampened the spirit of voters this general election (GE15).
Those affected by the floods said they were determined to come out and vote despite having to wade through flood waters, Utusan Malaysia reported.
One flood victim, Zulkifli Bakar, 45, said he was all pumped up to vote in GE15 that he returned to his hometown here last week.
Zulkifli said he was also prepared to face any obstacle just to vote, including the possibility of floods worsening.
“This area (Jalan Changkat Jong) wasn’t flooded at first, but the water started rising two days ago,” he said. “Whatever the case is with the floods, I will still come out and vote tomorrow. I’m excited.”
As of yesterday morning, the number of flood evacuees in Perak rose to 868 people, compared with 642 reported the night before.
The victims from 25 villages across seven districts were moved to 13 temporary relief centres after heavy rains since yesterday afternoon.
This increase involved Hulu Perak, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Hilir Perak, Manjung, Kerian, as well as Larut, Matang and Selama.
