PKR election chief defends audited party polls results

PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the decision to amend the party’s election results was made based on the auditor’s findings.

PETALING JAYA: PKR election committee chief Dr Zaliha Mustafa says the committee did not change the election results for the Wanita chief’s post unilaterally.

Instead, Zaliha said, the change was a result of the forensic audit conducted into the recently concluded party elections, with the committee merely following the auditor’s recommendation.

“The decision was made based on the auditor’s findings which were carried out scientifically,” she told FMT.

“The parameters of the audit did not focus on any particular position contested for and the results.

“The committee took the auditors’ suggestion. We asked them why they (changed the results) and we got an explanation for it,” she said.

Zaliha was commenting on Batu Tiga assemblyman Rodziah Ismail’s demand for the committee to explain the change of results for the Wanita chief’s post, which Fadhlina Sidek won after the audit.

Fadhlina, a senator, was declared the winner by a slim margin of 32 votes after polling 18,923 votes to Rodziah’s 18,891.

Rodziah was leading in the unofficial results.

Zaliha also said that she had yet to receive any formal notice from Rodizah disputing the audited results.

The results of the forensic audit released on Monday saw only a few changes in the outcome of PKR’s leadership elections last month.

Zaliha previously said the audit found that there were attempts to hack the election results, and that the experts involved in the audit had recommended that the party update its voting records.

Among the most vocal critics of the audit is former PKR Perak chief Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak, who claimed that it ignored the complaints and objections raised by candidates regarding online voting.

Zaliha said the committee went through 1,800 complaints and objections that were sent to the committee’s complaints panel.

She said the committee acted on the complaints, but did not publicise them.

“It is wrong to say that we did not take any action,” she said, adding that the committee did its best to carry out its duties in accordance with the party’s constitution and rules.
