Take anything Azmin says with a ‘pinch of salt’, warns Fahmi

PETALING JAYA: PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil says he was not aware of an alleged meeting between Azmin Ali and a few of the party’s top brass on Wednesday.
“I don’t know whether such a meeting transpired or not,” Fahmi told FMT.
He warned, however, that if such a meeting did take place, then PKR leaders should take anything the international trade and industry minister says with “a pinch of salt”.
“Azmin now says he will stay with Bersatu, but he has said the same about (staying with) PKR as well,” Fahmi said of the former PKR deputy president.
Fahmi was responding to a report that Azmin had met with representatives from PKR on Wednesday at the Sheraton Hotel in Petaling Jaya.
According to a Malaysiakini report quoting sources, the meeting between Azmin and the PKR emissaries allegedly involved the allegiance of MPs loyal to Azmin. They also indicated that Azmin was “trying to buy some sort of insurance” for his political survival.
This comes in the wake of Azmin recently quashing rumours that he would follow Zuraida Kamaruddin out of Bersatu, saying he believed in the Muhyiddin Yassin-led party’s ideals and principles.
Azmin said he would continue to work closely with the party’s members and thanked Muhyiddin for coming to his defence in denying rumours of his exit.
On Tuesday, Muhyiddin denied claims that Azmin and deputy Dewan Rakyat speaker Rashid Hasnon would follow in Zuraida’s footsteps and leave the party, saying these rumours were untrue.
On May 26, Zuraida, seen as a close ally of Azmin, quit Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
She and Azmin had joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR following the Sheraton Move in 2020.
