PETALING JAYA: Najib Razak has called for National Recovery Council (MPN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin to reveal how exactly the council has contributed to the country’s recovery.
Noting that the council was formed almost a year ago, Najib questioned what accomplishments Muhyiddin had to show as MPN chairman since its formation.
“Have you (Muhyiddin) successfully addressed the price and supply of chicken as well as controlled the prices of other food items?
“What exactly has been ‘recovered’?” the former prime minister asked in a Facebook post.
Najib also noted that the position of MPN chairman comes with ministerial status.
His comments come after Muhyiddin said the council would continue to serve as an advisory body to the government, especially on issues concerning the “well-being and comfort” of the people.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, said MPN recently held discussions with economists and others on the issues of inflation, rising food prices and food security, The Malaysian Insight reported.
The council was formed in July 2021 to replace the special Cabinet committee tasked with managing the national recovery plan. Among its duties were to advise on the nation’s recovery strategies, restoring the economy, and improving the people’s lives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Muhyiddin was appointed MPN chairman in September last year, a few weeks after he stepped down as prime minister on Aug 16.
