PETALING JAYA: Police have detained 10 teenagers to assist in investigations into a bullying case that allegedly took place at a boarding school in Teluk Intan, Perak.

In a statement, Perak police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the students, aged 16 to 17, were remanded for four days from yesterday.

Investigations are being conducted under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a deadly weapon.

According to him, the Form 4 and Form 5 students were detained after police received a report on June 23 from a 14-year-old student.

Initial findings showed the victim was bullied by 10 students at the school on June 23, between 12.30am and 1am. The victim was beaten and suffered injuries on his body from a hot iron.

Police believed jealousy was the motive behind the incident, adding that the victim was earlier seen talking to the girlfriend of one of the suspects.

Mior Faridalathrash said the victim called his mother, who then brought him to the Teluk Intan hospital to receive treatment.

“Currently, the victim is in stable condition,” he said.

Bullying incidents have been reported regularly in the past.

Last month, police recorded the statements of 30 students from a religious boarding school in Labu, Negeri Sembilan, over a bullying case that left a Form 2 student in need of medical treatment for injuries on several parts of his body.

In December last year, a boarding school in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, expelled 10 students over their alleged involvement in a bullying incident. Police arrested the students — nine 13-year-olds and a 15-year-old — before releasing them on bail after questioning.
