PKR may field new, young candidates in GE15, says Nik Nazmi

Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the new faces will help the party to rejuvenate.

PETALING JAYA: Incoming PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the results of the recent party elections will likely influence the list of candidates to be fielded in the next general election (GE15).

“We have been preparing for GE15 for the past one or two years but after the party elections, there will be new and young faces,” he told FMT.

He said, however, the final decision on the selection of candidates to be fielded in GE15 would be made by party president Anwar Ibrahim.

Nik Nazmi said the new faces would give the party a chance to rejuvenate itself following conflicts in the party.

“The new faces will help the party to rejuvenate, since previously there had been tensions between Anwar and former deputy president Azmin Ali’s camps,” he said.

He said that after the Sheraton Move, many “traitors” left the party or were sacked, leaving the Gombak parliamentary seat as well as the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat, which were held by PKR, up for grabs.

Nik Nazmi said the party was currently in talks with DAP and Amanah to decide which seats to contest.
