Tahfiz teacher nabbed for allegedly sodomising

The 23-year-old suspect was arrested in Pekan and taken to Kemaman, where a seven-day remand order was obtained.

PETALING JAYA: A tahfiz teacher in Kemaman, Terengganu, was arrested after he was suspected of sodomising several students aged 12 to 14 at his school.

The suspect, 23, was also remanded for seven days to assist in investigations, Berita Harian reported.

Kemaman district police chief Hanyan Ramlan said the sexual assault came to light after a student at the tahfiz school lodged a report claiming that he had been sodomised by his teacher.

He said the suspect was arrested in Pekan, Pahang, at about 11pm last night and taken to the Kemaman sessions court today.

“Police were granted a remand order for seven days starting today. The suspect has since been dismissed by the management of the tahfiz school.

“We believe there are other victims and we urge them to come forward to lodge reports,” the Malay daily quoted him as saying.

Hanyan said the case was being investigated under Section 377C of the Penal Code and Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
