“Spoken like a snake oil salesman”: PAS leader panned for seeking blind loyalty

WITH PAS under pressure after being ditched by UMNO, netizens took to social media to criticise a PAS leader for telling their members to follow leadership’s decisions without questioning.

“That’s exactly what a snake oil salesman would say,” said user Aziz Shukor.

Echoing Aziz’s sentiments, user Tan YH added:

Netizen Echik e-Sham retorted:

Yesterday, Perak PAS chairman Razman Zakaria urged party members to follow the leadership’s instructions and not meddle in their affairs.

“You don’t have to be nosy about what the leadership is up to. Don’t think too much about how many seats we will be contesting and all, or risk having headaches.

“Don’t ask about things if it isn’t necessary. Give full support (tsiqah) to the leadership team. That is the value we must adhere to,” he was reported as saying by Harakah Daily.

Undemocratic and untrustworthy

On that note, user Shaarifuddin Abdul Latiff said that Razman’s message clearly showed that PAS was all out for theocracy and was against democracy.

Netizen Razali Ahmad remarked: “I envy you all. Whatever you said, you still have a pool of people who still believe you.” – Feb 2, 2022.

  1. PAS is basically echoing widely held Islamist attitudes.
Followers are expected to trust and follow Ulama directions and interpretations, and not ask too many questions.
It doesn't help that the Koran is officially only available in Arabic, which only few have the ability to read and understand directly.

The situation is ripe for distorted as well as self-serving teachings and directions.
