Only Azmin would declare Covid management a success, says Kit Siang
Lim Kit Siang mocks Azmin Ali’s claim that the previous Perikatan Nasional-led government’s ‘extraordinary success’ in managing the pandemic had gained world recognition.
PETALING JAYA: Lim Kit Siang has dismissed Azmin Ali’s claim that the previous Perikatan Nasional-led (PN) government under Muhyiddin Yassin had been the best in managing the pandemic, citing the number of Covid-19 cases reported during the Emergency.
The DAP stalwart said that when the Emergency was imposed on Jan 11 last year, 2,232 new infections were reported.
And when it was lifted on Aug 1, the daily number of Covid-19 cases had surged to 17,150.
The total number of cases during the period rose to 1,130,422, while the total number of deaths rose to 9,184 from 160, he said.
“Nobody except Azmin would describe the Emergency to combat the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of the Delta variant as a success,” the Iskandar Puteri MP said in a statement, referring to the international trade and industry minister.

He said under Muhyiddin’s leadership, the country managed to come out of the health and economic crisis.

He argued that Putrajaya had instead managed to reduce the infectivity rate as well as the number of daily cases after implementing movement restrictions, including the third movement control order (MCO).

What Ass-binte claimed reminds me of his party president when he (Muhyiddin) was Education Minister during his UMNO days.
