Is S’wak planning to change “Chief Minister” status to “Premier”?

IS the Sarawak government mulling to change the position of its chief minister? It appears so according to a proposed Bill.

According to Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii, the Sarawak government would be seeking to amend its constitution, so as to change the title of “Chief Minister” to “Premier”.

The amendment, which will affect Article 6 (3) of the Sarawak constitution, would seek the retain the title “Ministers” of the region’s Cabinet line-up.

However, it is note that a marginal amendment to Article 7 (a) is also being proposed, where it would elevate their “Assistant Ministers” to “Deputy Ministers”.

Responding to the proposed amendments, Bandar Kuching MP Kelvin Yii stated in a tweet: “In the latest proposed amendments to Sarawak Constitution that will be tabled tomorrow in DUN (state assembly), they will change the title “Chief Minister” to “Premier”.

“Which means Abg Jo (Tan Sri Johari Abang Openg) will be called the “Premier” of Sarawak.”

In Dec last year, the Government secured the two-thirds majority needed to amend clauses of the Federal Constitution to restore Sabah and Sarawak’s status as equal partners to Peninsula Malaysia.

The amendments came just four days before Sarawakians were to vote in the state election.

It is to note that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) led by Abang Johari holds more than two-thirds majority in the region’s legislative assembly, which means he would not require support from the Opposition bloc to pass the proposed amendments. – Feb 13, 2022.

Australia is like Malaysia consisting of many states - Australian states have more autonomy in matters such as education, policing, law, etc whilst in Malaysia, states have autonomy in land and, in sultanate states, religious affairs. JAKIM should watch out it doesn't trample on the rulers' rights as Heads of religion in their respective states.

As we have been informed, JAKIM was set up by Mahathir to minimise the rulers' say on religion. Old Man might have left the scene for now but his influence on JAKIM eff-ing up rulers's rights on religion seems to still prevail.

As I have often proposed, close down JAKIM to preserve the rulers prerogatives especially on religion (apart from saving the budget by more than RM1 billion per year).

Those republican-bent clerics are far too dangerous to our monarchial system and it's time Malaysians, especially Chinese Malaysians stand up for Tuanku-Tuanku.

Anyway, in both Malaysia and Australia we have Prime Ministers, both of whom currently are eff-up characters, wakakaka.

Both PM are Raja Bodek's

Malaysian states with rulers have Menteri Besar's as state political head whilst those without rulers (Penang, Melaka, Sarawak and Sabah) have Chief Ministers - the Agong is Head of religion in the non-sultanate states.

Australian states have Premiers (equivalent to MB) whilst Territories (eg. Canberra, Northern Territory) have Chief Ministers.

Australian States were independent separate British colonials before they joined up to form the Commonwealth of Australia. Australian territories started off initially without enough finance to run themselves, nor state legislations to form their own laws, so in the latter case they rely on the federal government to create and approve the laws.

Thus I see no major constitutional issue if the Chief Minister of Sarawak wishes to call himself Premier of Sarawak. And if (or when) Sarawak secedes from Malaysia, the Premier of Sarawak can change the state constitution again to call him/herself with any title including "Maha-Raja-Brooke" Abang-Jo, wakakaka.

But more importantly, are my readers aware that the Sultan of Johor should now be addressed by his official honorific as "His Majesty" and no longer "His Highness"?

What is the implication of this? Think about it!

    1. How about Peninsular Malaysia has been robbing the Sabah/Sarawak blind for their natural resources?

      Mfer, who's using who's monies ?

    2. The biggest plunderers of Sarawak resources for the last 5 decades have been Pek Moh, his cronies and various PBB now GRS cronies.

Sarawakians only have themselves to blame for voting these thieves by default, practically unthinking since 1963.

    3. Pek Moh had to work within the rules & framework of MA63 & the M'sia laws!

His 5 decades blunderings had the blessings of the federal govt BCOZ he was the safe depisit of the equally f*cked BN administration in robbing the M'sia populace.

So, using yr f*cked circular logic, ain't the federal govt owned up to a major part of the blame? For god sake, Sarawak is a member state of M'sia. The Sarawakians SHOULDN not be left to the rules of Pek Moh. Unless right from the beginning the federal govt had been practising Sarawak for Sarawakian in stealth mode!

Blaming the Sarawakians for voting these thieves by default IS so so simple fart!

Mfer, if u have ever travelled within inland Sarawak only then u would know HOW those 'default' voting were been implemented.

Modern politics in the cities r so so far away from their survival considerations!

But, AGAIN, for a silver spoon-fed old moneyed mfer daily toils & hard pressing for midget survival NEVER come to its mind!

  2. The elected heads of government of every Australian State (except Northern Territories) have always been called "Premier", from 19th Century days.
So the title carries no connotation of any change of Status.

While Sarawak's 2022 change of head of state government to "Premier" can be construed as an attempt to change the constitutional status to "Head of Nation"?
