'Have election rules changed?' - Najib asks after Johor Bersatu gathering
Following a pre-launch ceremony by Bersatu in Muar last night, former premier Najib Abdul Razak has asked the National Security Council to explain whether the bans on face-to-face appearances and campaigning before the election period have been lifted.
"Apparently, the standard operating procedure (SOP) ban on face-to-face talks has been lifted by the Health Ministry?
"They are sitting closely together, are they not afraid of Covid?
"And the ban on speaking and campaigning before the permitted campaign period under the Election Offences Act 1954 has also been repealed?" Najib questioned in a Facebook post this morning.
This came after Johor Bersatu election operations director Badrul Hisham Shaharin uploaded a photo of the ceremony which was attended by Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah and the party's information chief Wan Saiful Wan Jan.

Badrul, better known as Chegubard, said through his Facebook that more than 200 Bersatu members were present at the pre-launch ceremony for the Johor state election machinery for the Maharani constituency in Muar last night.
Najib asked the Health Ministry and the Election Commission to come forward to give an explanation on the matter.
PM nomination made by Bersatu
Wan Saiful, in his speech at the talk, reminded Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that Bersatu's support for him was conditional and that his nomination to the post was made by Bersatu and not Umno.
"We have to remember that Ismail Sabri became the prime minister and was not nominated by Umno. It was not Umno who nominated him," he was quoted as saying.
Tensions between Bersatu and PAS on one hand, and Umno on the other, have escalated in recent weeks as the parties prepare to do battle in Johor.
